Ear Ear!

When nanotechnology initially started generating excitement, one of the hot areas with great expectations was bioenhancement, with the possibility of bionic eyes and ears.

As always, there is a subtantial gap between the wilder fantasies of nanotech, and the more prosaic reality, so we were interested to come across an interesting application of nanotechnologies from Siemens Hearing Instruments.

Rather than attempting to shrink a hearing aid to the size of a blood cell, the application is simply a super hydrophobic coating to repell moisture, which is apparently one of the major causes of failure in these devices.
