Our own Dexter Johnson wades into the wet/dry mechanical/biological argument over at IEEE Spectrum to pour oil on troubled waters and no doubt light a match.
It’s a good theses, one I have been discussing for years with various prominent scientists, most of whom wonder why the Foresight gang don’t just go off and do some science rather than wasting time on imagining and debating the possible consequences of technology that may never be invented.
I’ll agree with Dexter’s point about the Foresight Institute being somewhat venerable, but over recent years they seem to have gone somewhat senile as well. Apart from railing against the scientific establishment with the fury of an old testament prophet in beard and Birkenstocks, , could anybody enlighten us as to what they are actually for these days?
