Second Time Lucky?

News from Japan informs us of a new use for an old technology by Suzutora. The company developed the technology to create nanometre sized stainless steel particles and coat textiles with them 25 years ago, but it had not been able to find a marketable use for it.

Memories of the kind of voodoo required to crank up pre digital era electron microscopes to get down to a resolution of a few nanometres make it likely that a few more interesting nanotechnologies will emerge from corporate vaults over the coming years.

The stainless steel particles will be finding their way into a parasol that shuts out both heat and ultraviolet rays early next year according to Suzutora President Takahiro Suzuki.
