“Something That Looked Like Nanotechnology”

quarter.jpgThere has been an odd story doing the rounds this week about some nanotech enabled Canadian quarters. Despite Canada minting some thirty million of the coins, one or two that mysteriously found their way into the coat pockets of a US defence contractor managed to spark a spy scare about coins fitted with radio transmitters.

The contractors claimed that the coins were “filled with something man-made that looked like nanotechnology” which turned out to be a protective coating.

Human nature is always to be attracted to the fantastic rather than the mundane, but you have to wonder at the sheer ignorance and paranoia of the contractors in question who were working in Canada but were so obviously unfamiliar with the local currency.
