Toxic Cosmetics? Maybe Not

IEHN CosmeticsThe Investor Environmental Health Network has released a report “Beneath the Skin: Hidden Liabilities, Market Risk and Drivers of Change in the Cosmetics and Personal Care Products Industry” which not surrisingly takes a look at the use of nanoparticles (although pthalates cause more concern). Nanotech merits a section, and gives a good round up of what is being used and by whom.

As with most reports concerning the possible liabilities due to possible nanoparticle toxicology, the report serves to highlight areas which may cause future problems rather than any hard facts. None of this will come as a big surprise to the cosmetics industry who have been performing extensive testing of nanomaterials precisely to avoid any future liabilities.
